The Vatican Museums contain masterpieces of painting, sculpture and other works of art collected by the popes through the centuries. They were founded under the patronage of two eighteenth - century popes - Clement XIV (1769 - 1774) and Pius VI (1775 - 1799) - who were among the first to open collections of art to the general public for viewing.

Many of these exquisite ceiling can been seen in this enormous museum. Sistine Chapel is the one which attracted most of the tourists, as the procedure to complete was demanding and each of the painting hold a different story.
